William Leo Dunfey (1925-1991) was born in Lowell, Massachusetts. From 1943 to 1946, Dunfey served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Dunfey became involved with the Democratic Party in his twenties, when he joined the Young Democrats Club of New Hampshire. He received his B.A. from the University of New Hampshire in 1950.
